I haven't been to the computer in a while because I've had my mum come and stay with us for two weeks. As we live so far away from each other we've had a lot of girl time to catch up on; Watching movies, late night chats, Hours of shopping and lots of laughs with everyone.
Each of my children has enjoyed 'nanny' tremendously. Teenage son has had quiet happy chats, first daughter has been reading to nanny, telling her jokes and constantly asking "can I sit next to nanny", middle girl is quiet and has probably had the most cuddles, youngest girl just wants to hold nanny's hand and baby runs around the house calling "nanny, nanny, nanny, nanny, nanny".
Husband has been lovely and not minded that I've been spending all free time with my mum, and I have enjoyed every single second of having her here.
I have been encouraged by her spiritually to continue to try to be a virtuous woman, and uplifted by her emotionally to stay strong even when I feel I'm being pulled in all different directions. I have been inspired by her creatively to accomplish all the things that I've wanted to get done. Things I always had on my mind but kept putting off because 'the time was never right', 'the children need me' or 'I need to make dinner'.
So now I've started on crafts and decorating around the house and now that my mind is switched on I'm full of ideas: tablecloths, curtains, seat cushions, re-upholstering and hopefully some home made shoe cupboards.
More fun activities for the girls has also been on the menu recently. My mum directed me to Anna's site imagination tree and we are all loving the fun ideas and coming up with some of our own too.
A few days into my mums visit I was thinking "what will we do when she's gone" but now I am filled with excitement and determination.
I am so thankful to God to have someone like my mother in my life and I know she is just as loving, frank and encouraging to me as she is to everyone she meets. She is in my mind fulfilling what the apostle Paul tells the 'aged women' to do in Titus 2:4-5.
... that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed".
I pray that God will send an 'aged woman' to all you women out there, someone to be an encouragement to you all. And may we all strive to be this for someone else ourselves one day.
What a lovely tribute to your Mum. I wish I had someone like that in my life- keep hold of how precious she is always.

Sounds like a wonderful time and great inspiration. Amazing how one person can be such an influence for good-a challenge for us to work towards being Titus 2 women for our daughters.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
Hurrah for mothers. And praise the God who made your Mum the loving lady that she is!
